Using movie maker to create slideshows is a simple and a great way to share your memories with others. In this tutorial I will show you how to produce a video with music using your photos and music. Another alternative to using movie maker is using Windows photostory. I will be doing a tutorial on photostory also so stay tuned!
Open movie maker and select the import pictures link.
By default, movie maker will open your my Pictures folder. You can always navigate to the folder where your photos are stored if they are not in the my pictures folder. Once you have your photos selected, click on the import button to import your photos.
You will see your photos in the collections section of movie maker. Drag and drop your photos into the story line as demonstrated below. You can arrange the photos in any order to suit your needs.
Once you have your photos imported in the story timeline, you can add transition effects. Transition effects add a nice effect when going from one photo to another and it keeps you audience entertained. Click on the Edit movie option. Then click on the View video transitions. You will be presented with various transitions you can use for your project. Drag and drop your desired effect into the transition effect box.
Now you can add music to your slideshow. Adding music will add a entertaining element to your slideshow and will keep it from being another boring slideshow. Click on the import audio or music.
By default, movie maker will open your my music folder. If you have your music stored somewhere else you can always navigate to that folder. Select your song or songs then click on import.
You will now see the selected songs in your collection section. Now, you will need to click on the show timeline in order to import your music. Once you are in the timeline mode, you will three sections.
- Video
- Audio/music
- Title Overlay
Drag and drop your audio file into the Audio/Music section. You will notice that your song is much longer than your photo slideshow. You have a couple of options here. You can add more photos to lengthen your slideshow or you can reduce your song length. Most people will reduce the length of the song instead of adding more photos.
To shorten your song, click on the far right black arrow of the audio file and drag it to the desired length. I always leave a second or two of audio after the slideshow has finished.
If you are content with the slideshow, you can now save your video. Click on Finish Movie, and then on Save to my computer.
You will be presented with a new windows asking you to name your video and where you would like to save it to. Once you have entered a name for your movie and a location click on next.
You will now be presented with the save movie settings window. Click on show more choices and then other settings. Choose the WMV-HD profile from the list. (I do not have this profile installed in this computer so you will not see it as an option.) If you do not have the WMV-HD profile installed please view my windows movie maker tutorial on how to install this profile.
Click on next.
Your video will is now being saved. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to several minutes.
After your video is completed. You have the option to view the video once you click on finish or you can uncheck the box to view your video and click on finish to close movie maker. You can then exit out of movie maker. If you want to edit the movie in the future, make sure to save your project. If you are satisfied with your video you can choose not to save the project as your master video is already created and saved.
Now you can share your videos with your audience via youtube! If you need assistance on how to upload videos to youtube check out my tutorial uploading videos to youtube.
